Cuts and new combinations:
- Environment Canada is slimming down 776 positions
- About 8,000 public-sector tech workers are being wrapped into a new $2-billion federal agency Shared Services Canada.
- This rejigging has led to a few wish lists of note
- Which leads us to a very engaging interview with the Chief information Officer of the United States. Vivek Kundra. Sound familiar? “The federal government has accumulated 24,000 websites and more than 10,000 separate IT systems; servers in some agencies are idle 93% of the time. Kundra's assignment has been to improve efficiency while also making the government's staggering quantities of valuable data more available and useful to the public.”
